Биография

Родился 30 марта 1945 года в Рипли, графство Саррей. Большое влияние на юного Клэптона оказала музыка американских блюзменов Мадди Уотерса, Роберта Джонсона, Биг Билла Брунзи, чьи записи Эрик слушал все свободное время, осваивая технику игры выдающихся блюзовых гитаристов. После учебы в Кингстонском художественном колледже (откуда он был отчислен за неуспеваемость) Клэптон принимает активное участие в жизни лондонской блюзовой сцены: эпизодически выступает с группой Алексиса Корнера «Blues Incorporated», а в октябре 1963-го присоединился к «The Yardbirds».
